Virus Warning from my IT department
Jul. 15th, 2003 11:12 amThere is a new virus, W32.Gruel@mm, that causes extensive damage.
This virus is a worm that spreads by email and file-sharing networks. Its payload includes changing user passwords, hiding the C: drive, deleting system files and making numerous changes to the system registry.
The email has the following characteristics:
Subject: Microsoft Windows Critical Update.
Attachment: Windows Critical Update 088562.exe
This worm has a high distribution and can cause extensive damage.
Microsoft does not distribute patches through e-mail. The attachment must not be executed. If you receive an e-mail at home (or through a non-Notes email system at work (note, I have Lotus notes at work)) that matches the description above, delete the e-mail promptly.
