Me too. I wish I could find more details...but a search of the local news channel websites turned up little more than the terse article.

I think the local paper (www.bergen.com) should have something tommmorow.

Wow. I drove a car through a house when I was two, but this is just crazy.

It's a happier ending than the stories we've had around here recently. In one case, a woman who was the director of a La Petite daycare, left her 2-year-old in the car while she went to work. The baby died from the heat. In another, a 3-year-old and a 5-year-old were left in a car while their mother had her hair and nails done. Again, they died. These are just two of about 5 stories I can think of right now. In all honestly, I cheer this little girl for doing something about being left alone in the car!

It's actually a little odder than I first thought.
If you go to www.wnbc.com and read the whole story - a 9 year old and 4 year old were left alone in an apartment. The 9 year old stole the keys and drove 1/2 mile down the road to the supermarket.

I hate stories like that ... I got nervous when I had Alan strapped in the car the other day and had to get something from the other car - less than 50 feet away and 1 minute alone ...

When I was about 10 years old, two toddlers drove a car into my parents' parked car! The dorky dad left his toddlers in the front seat of the car AND left the engine running while he ran across the street to the credit union. (This was around 1970 when car-seat laws weren't around yet.) The kids apparently played with the steering wheel until one of them hit the shifter and put the car into "drive," and it lurched across the street and hit my parents' Dodge Polara, parked on the other side of the street. If someone had been speeding down the street just at that moment, those kids could have been really hurt!
