Update/PPD
Nov. 21st, 2002 05:29 pm(I'm writing one message for a few places to save time while Alan naps).
Tuesday I decided to shop with Alan. We went to a bunch of places - Buy
Buy Baby (BBB), Moto Photo to get photo reprints picked up (and I got a
bagel and juice at the bagel place next door), Babies R US, and the
supermarket (where my bank is) to open an account. I was able to get it
all done. Alan cried at BBB and I had to give him a bottle (not possible
to Nurse-in-public there at this time for me) - the cashier was nice and
got the stuff in/out of cart because I was tied up with the bottle. I
also noticed there bathroom had diapers and wipes. I do have to return a
few things next week though - car stuff (mirror, car seat leveler, car
seat blanket/cover) that didn't work.
Today I went to the PPD evaluation which was through the hospital's psch
department (actually part of "The Center for Trauma Recovery" - I was
referred by the social worker in the mom/baby group. It took forever to
get to talk to the person I was to see. Apparently since this is a
hospital they take a while to do paperwork/insurance stuff. I did ask if
I could nurse Alan somewhere while waiting and they were fine with it. I
had to change him just as she came in and that went ok also. It was a lot
of questions and background, I thought it went ok - not sure what the
title was the person I spoke with today. There is a daytime PPD support
group starting in 2 weeks so I'll go to that. I also have an appointment
tommorrow with a psychatrist for med discussion - not sure if I want
them, but will discuss.
Went to mom/baby group also. 3 people and babies showed up. One has to go
back to work, so today was their last day. Another one will also be in
the PPD group with me. I did again ask them about a nightime group and
also mentioned to the social worker that if the hospital is so pro
breastfeeding why is their no LaLeche group - its at another hospital and
amazingly meets at NIGHT! Hopefully these programs will get off the
ground, the hospital (hackensack university hospital) is building a whole
new mother/child building and this would be good to have with it.
Hopefully the hospital will better promote this group (it may be new, I
don't know) - with 4000 babies a year born there, more than 3 mom's
should be showing up.
Tonight is LLL also (busy day). I hope I can learn to use my sling.
We found a daycare provider. We got her name from our county's office for
children. She's in town - charging 125 a week for 8:30-5 (I think)( and 5
each additional hour. Being that's shes in her house, we won't have to
worry if we don't make a 6:30 closing time. We'd pay weekly - she
currently has her daughter and another child a client and we checked her
references and she was good. I have paperwork to fill out and I have to
clarify the hours and start date (I need her to start before I go back to
work (sometime between 12/30/02 and 1/6/03) to make sure it all works out
- but don't know if she'd be available xmas week, have to call her).
I guess I'm lucky I basically get up once a night - we go to bed between
11:30 - 12:30 - I get up between 2 and 4 and then I try to make it until
6:30 (alarm for DH to go to work). I still can't nurse well in bed so
that feeding is usually formula :( Last night was bad because DH had
computer problems and stuff so I didn't go to bed till after 12. I tried
to nap today, but the phone rang for a call I was wating on, and I
decided not to go back to sleep and catchup on e-mail :(
