Jan. 31st, 2004 11:12 pmIt was a long day,
Went to the endo at 9:45. They were able to see me early. Bad news, I have a papillary cancer. I was given a # of a NYC thyroid surgeon to follow up with. I dont know if she's on my insurance and how I'd work it out with work :(
I had time before Alan's pediatric appointment. So I went to starbucks to get a coffee. Alan was very smiley and happy there.
Then off to the pediatrician. We had to wait a lot. Alan liked the plastic slide in the waiting room - kept trying to climb it. He played with those bead and wire things. He wanted to see the 13 month old girl waiting, but she was sick :(
His statistics were 31.5 inches and 26 lbs 12 oz - up 1/2 inch and 10 ozes. His percentiles are in the 70's for weight height so the doctor is fine. His lead test was 2 (I asked as I'd never heard back). His head is in the 90%. We had to wait for the doctor, but I had to go to the bathroom badly (coffee). I finally asked the nurse to watch him for a minue or two so I could go. She did fortunately.
We had the young doctor today. He asked if Alan ate milk, yogurt, cheese (yup), fruit (his favorite), vegetables (yup). He asked if Alan used a pacifier (never). And if he was still using bottles (yes, wean by 18 months). He asked about walking up stairs. I said he's not walking but very close (his dad walked late). He wanted Alan evaluated if he wasn't walking by 16 months. He asked about sleeping hours and throught he night I said he was sometimes with me. He wasn't too thrilled with that. He seemd to want Alan in the crib at night. I didn't say much. Mark and I are ok with cosleeping. Sometimes Alan wakes up for a drink or with a cough. He can put himself back to sleep usually, but sometime I've been wakeing him because I went to the bathroom, so I take him on the way back. Mark thinks a woman doctor might have been different - and it really isn't the doctor's concern unless we're complaing.
The doctor also asked about turning the seat around. I said no, because we hadn't gottten connected with our towns police offer/cps tech. He seemed surprised about it - he didn't know rear facing 15 month olds. I checked the weight limit on the way out - 30 lbs, so I have time before I have to flip it. I wonder if should send my doctor stuff about extended rear facing (I'm not an advocate, believe I'd flip my car seat if I could, but I prefer the CPS tech doing it.)
He had his 2 shots in the arms - whatever the 15 month is + chicken pox. (The doctor didn't want to do it in the legs to hold up walking). I didn't give him tylenol as the stuff I had in the diaper bag expired.
He also recommend Acquphor for Alan's red cheecks. I got 2 - one for home and one for the sitter tonight. As well as replacing the tylenol for the house and the diaper bag.
He fell asleep afterwards so I went to gymboree and got him some dinosaur stuff and a pair of dragons slippers. He slept the whole time through.
Tonight we went over friends and went shopping - first to a .99 cent store, then to DSW shoe warehouse and shoprite. Alan was very good and fell asleep quickly when we got home. But somehow I came home with out his diaper bag. I had it at our friends, I thought it was in the car and I didn't take it to any of the stores that I can recall. Argh!
Maybe it will turn up tommorrow AM?
It's been a long day and I'm tired :(
