We usually have the TV on Nickelodeon most of the time. Which means we end up watching the “Teen Nick” shows like: Zoey 101 and Unfabulous. Alan used to like Zoey (Jamie-Lynn Spears) but mostly it’s background noise. So I usually don’t see whole episodes at a time – just bits here and there.

Last night was the season Premier (at last) of Unfabulous. Anyway the three lead pre teens were discussing death – the great aunt of Emma’ Roberts charcter (Addie) had died (off-screen). All of a sudden they start talking about Buffy – I forget the dialogue but they were talking about how she’d died and Willow brought her back. It seemed very odd they would be referencing a show that isn’t on Nickelodeon, nor one that the younger audience members might have watched.

(I bet this has hit the Buffy-verse blogs already!)

Finally

Our HR is matching contributions to the Salvation Army and Red Cross for Katrina relief

So I'll be giving them a check tommorrow. I'll probably still do more on my own with stuff, but I'm glad someone convinced them to do something.

Most of this weekend had financial crud hanging over us. None of it was urgently needed for our own finances – but the situation stressed all of us out. Still we did a few things.

Saturday we went to the Meadowlands flea market. Alan was quite good and we walked a bit. Didn’t get much except some food – and 2 toys for Alan. There was someone with a pile of assorted toys 2 for $1.00. I took a look and spotted a Thomas train (one of the Tomy plastic ones) – figured he could play with it in the car etc (of course I can’t find it this AM). I continued to look in the pile while Alan looked at the train and found a WOODEN Thomas caboose also. So grabbed that (new, that’s $10.00). I was originally going to eBay it, but now I think I’ll just keep it for him – it’s got a little previously loved wear on it anyway.

After nap we went to Big Lots and Dollar Tree. Sometimes both have the exact same stuff in them – usually we notice this in the food area. They both had Chips Ahoy Dipping Sticks (tiny little sticks of Chips Ahoy Cookies) – I guess they didn’t sell well – they taste fine!

Sunday, we had the unveiling to go to in the cemetery. I wore a 9/11 polymer clay ribbon I got off eBay for charity afterwards on my outfit – I like to wear red/white/blue as a memorial thing – Alan also had red/white/blue on. It was weird that it was such a nice day, so similar to 9/11/01. We got to the cemetery early. Outside the gates, the Jewish War Veterans were collecting money – no I don’t know why – it was NOT appropriate, even for Katrina relief. Mark’s dad is buried there as well as the dad of a friend of ours, we paid our respects to both – it was weird when we went to the office to find out where our friend’s dad was – it’s all computerized and they hand you a printed map with the location on it.

The unveiling cemetery was very nice. The rabbi knew our friend’s dad and said nice things. There were about 50 people there (most we didn’t know) – family, friends and friends of his children. I did see other people at the cemetery – but it looked like normal cemetery traffic and nothing particularly for 9/11. (I didn’t see any 9/11 graves either – this is a huge cemetery anyway).

Afterwards everyone went to a local diner for lunch. We had a limited choice of items to eat (mostly dairy for anyone who was Kosher). I had a cheese omlet, Mark had pancakes. I don’t eat lox or I would have had lox on a bagel. They were very slow serving all the people though. There were 2 little children there – a 2 year old and 8 week old. The 2-year-old girl was cute and the 8 week old made some funny faces. I was glad to see he was being nursed – but as I said to Mark, it was discrete, you’d know if you were a mom but others would think he was just being held sideways.

Alan had stayed with Mark’s mom – she took him to the park. Later after naps etc we had dinner at Mark’s moms too.

I think the financial stuff will sort out today which is good. We got good news on Angelique – she’ll be home from the hospital today. Sadly, though Mark’s uncle’s SO (Elaine)’s sister Joanne is not doing well – we’ve met her – it doesn’t look good. So, (HUGS) again to our extended family.

Back to work. Or not.

Forum: announcements Subject: Please help us archive the Katrina disaster
The Internet Archive, a non-profit digital library, needs help in finding URL's of sites and blogs that contain documents of this major disaster.

Please submit links to sites and pages that should be saved for future research (below).

We have worked to archive events such as 9/11 and the tsunami with the generous help of volunteers finding and sending in links. We then save these digital works for the long term and create research tools (for example: http://www.loc.gov/minerva/collect/sept11/index.html and http://web.archive.org ). As a library, we provide free access to those wanting to learn from these events-- we can only hope that we learn some lessons from disasters such as these.

Again, please submit single URLs or lists of URLs that you suggest should be archived relevant to the Katrina Disaster

We are also looking for a couple of volunteers that can help orchestrate the crawl. If you are interested, please send a note to katrina@archive.org with "volunteer" in the subject line.

Please forward this message to any appropriate lists or people.

Thank you.

Brown resigns (probably not too volunarily) as FEMA head.

So, who should take over? Too bad they can't draft Guiliani.

And I wish [livejournal.com profile] interdictor had comments enabled. There would be a field day there. The comments were always interesting.

Reminds me of NYC in 2003. But that happened at 4 PM, this is 2 PM there - more daylight to fix things.

Hope all is well there.
