Am I weird to wonder if there will be any interesting blogs out there like [livejournal.com profile] interdictor's during this storm?

I wake up at 6:30 to the sound of helicopters overhead. My first thought was did something happen at Teterboro airport again? (It's 5 minutes from our house, the scene of a plane crash last spring).

Since Alan and Mark were still asleep I turned on the living room TV. They finished talking about the hurricane and switched to a shot of a house fire in Little Ferry (my town) - on Niehaus Street - it sounded familiar but I couldn't place it.

When Mark woke up, I checked google maps on the computer. It turns out to be the street south of Alan's daycare, the one I turn onto to go around the block after leaving the parking lot. This morning I actually parked and dropped Alan off at daycare since I was dropping my car at the mechanic for brake work. So I headed down that street - I could see the remains of fire activity - but was making a right turn before I got to the actual spot (It was blocked off). Weird anyway - I can't find an online link to it of course - it will probably be in tommorrows local paper.

Alan also said Good morning Daryl to his classmate. His teacher said his vocabulary is really growing. Maybe reading to him nightly is helping. I'd also put his shoes on the wrong feet :(

At Alan's open house last night, I asked if there were any nut allergies. I'd asked when I'd enrolled him, but figured it was good to check again. I know that sometimes they are so severe that just someone eating a peanut butter sandwhich nearby can trigger an attack.

Turns out one of his classmates is allergic to any nut other than peanuts (he'd outgrown other allergies he had). And there is a child starting in October with allergies. Hopefully the director will let people know if this is an issue for the other children.

Any ideas for a nut allergy safe stuff I could bring for Alan's birthday in October (planning ahead)?

It was amazing to read the synagouges and torahs (even ones from the Holocaust) were undamaged!

Kind of goes along with the Jesus statue that remained basically undamaged in New Orleans while huge trees fell down.

Hmmm

A coworker is going to Dallas for business - I think he's leaving today and is coming back Friday. I know Dallas isn't near Houston, but I probably wouldn't go because it might be hard to get a flight out coming home.

The customer of ours I thought was in Houston has previously relocated their use of our software to Toronto (where they are). Hurricanes are not a threat there.
