http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060124/ap_en_tv/tv_networkWell, seeing that UPN stopped having any Star Trek programming at the end of last season with the demise of Enterprise this doesn't surprise me. UPN was launched with their flagship series being Star Trek Voyager. I remember watching the first epsiode on Channel 9 in NY. At the time, I thought it odd that Trek was on 9, as Channel 11, WPIX had been running Star Trek for so many years - first original series reruns on weekends, then The Next Generation, then Deep Space 9. As a matter of fact they counterprogrammed Deep Space Nine AGAINST Voyager in the beginning. (I don't remember who won those rating wars).
Channel 9 got sold to Fox, but WPIX has stayed independant being owned by the Tribune Corp. Channel 9's future is unclear - some say sports, some say on-air versions of FX cable shows...who knows. I'm not sure why they chose the CW network - makes me think of Country & Western music!
It doesn't seem that long ago that Fox, UPN and WB were the upstarts. Now the demise of one, makes Fox seem like a classic - I feel old that I remember channel 5 as once being Metromedia/WNEW and running Wonderama on Sunday mornings!
