Been quiet lately - a bit swamped this weekend with a birthday party and then working with my SIL on her move.

The party was nice on Saturday. It was at our friends house (yeah, no Chuckie Cheese). She'd invited us, her neighbor and son and two other mom's and kids she knew (we'd heard of one of them by conversation). All were nice. We had pizza and her famous ziti as well as a Thomas cake. Alan seemed more interested in thomas videos or trains than being social until it was just him, the neighbors son who he'd met before and the birthday child left. But I think he had a good time anyway.

The goody bag Alan got was amusing. (My friend isn't online and won't see this). In a large Sponge Bob shopping bag, Alan got a Buzz light year straw glass and plate, an add water and it grows Aligator, a superball with a green dinosaur in it, and a large bag of raisinetts! I suspect she recycled stuff (all the guests got the same size shopping bags) - but since she didn't have a lot to spend on the party, I'm ok with that.

Sunday we went to Verona Park which was the site of our first date in 1998. We attended the craft fair there - but it seemed smaller and less interesting than usual. We did let Alan play at the really nice playground there - it's got that squishy rubber stuff that feels like you bounce on it under the equipment. Then we went to my SILs.

Things went pretty well moving some boxes etc over. I even fixed the kitchen cabinet hinge that was loose (using the screwdriver the workers left there as they are still doing some work.) Then stuff went wrong. First I managed to get one of the closet rods stuck as I was trying to put it in and scratched the inside of the closet. Then we (not sure who or how) managed to somehow lock the apartment from the inside so that the key didn't work, so we couldn't finish moving things. Meanwhile Alan, who was very tired (little nap on Saturday and up late) had fallen asleep on my SIL's bed. When we went to wake him up to go home, we discovered he'd leaked all over the bed. And one of the few things we had moved was the spare linens. Fortunately she was able to do laundry and had a nice clean bed after we left.

I feel in a better mood today. Not sure why, maybe because I found a lot of software bugs in the past few days?

In our ongoing company complaints file - we've resolved our bank issue (we now know how to get bank checks to clear quickly), I will leave the car for GM on Thursday at the dealers, but we have not heard from the UK bank, so I will have to e-mail them again.

Tonight we will get photos taken for our pool passes. And hopefully see the new baby upstairs (both Christina and Alan were cranky yesterday, it wouldn't have been a good day to meet her.)

For Chanuka this year Alan got the Mattel roll up raceway - he liked it, but it wasn't built that well and it broke. So I complained to them and they sent me a 20.00 certificate that expires on 5/31. (Note - if you google on "mattel nurse practictioner" you will find some e-mails to write to - nurse practitioners are upset about a toy duck called nurse quackers and have posted a few mattel e-mails out on the web).

I had been thinking of using it to get the Mattel licensed Pixar Cars (like Hot Wheels) - but our Target is 1/2 gone with them and the one Walmart I checked out didn't have any at all.

Does anyone know if Walmart (or Kmart/Sears) carries these? Or does anyone have suggestions for a fisher price or mattel toy appropriate for a 3 1/2 year old boy - he likes Little People a tiny bit, Hot Wheels and Matchbox more. (The original rollup track is long gone from stores that would take this coupon). I don't have a gift to give in the near future, it would be so simple if it were for any of the Thomas the tank engine products :(
