I'm here, which is a good thing.

Regarding the whole BF controvery - I never had a BF icon. My only preferences on icons is that they be work safe, but in LJ icon size you can't see much anyway.

My work has started tightening the proxy server. Unfortunately I can no longer view www.naartjie.com because it is hosted on homestead.com. Naartjie is South African kids clothing, not related to my work, but not offensive either. Surprisingly I can view anything else like Gap, Gymboree, eBay, etc. Oh well. (Note - this is posted from home)

Yesterday my husband wore my pants to work (a pair of beige chinos). He noticed because the pockets were too small for all his junk! It wasn't a good day for him because he also got to work 1.5 hours late due to a car fire on his commute (not his car). He didn't notice I'd washed his car and left him an air freshner though :(

Yesterday Google.com contacted me at work out of the blue. I doubt there is anything for me, but if anyone needs the contact info, I saved it. [livejournal.com profile] cjsmith, I forwarded it to you.

Also, speaking of out of the blue, Sunday night - Hilary, the aide who take care of my late grandmother called. She was very nice and did a good job (she'd also been her neighbors nanny). I wonder if she was job hunting, that I couldn't help with though.

And last night I was reading an old Little Golden Book called "Tootle". We'd gotten it from my cousin. It was written in 1945 - the language was funny - it had references to "gay" and "queer" and in the original sense - not related to homosexuality. It would probably be banned as politicially incorrect in 2006!

Last night we were copying Family Guy on DVD for my SIL who is a big fan. I’ve not watched it much and Mark never had. So after the copy finished, Mark put it on to see how it came out. I was in the Alan’s bedroom sorting clothes and he called out something like it says it’s not for under 18. He was surprised at the language and adult references in it – but Alan happened to be watching it! Alan seemed to like the scene where they were throwing up a lot (I guess that’s 3 year old humor). Hopefully he won’t be permanently messed up by seeing a bit of it. Most of his TV watching that we’ve let him see has been Nick/Noggin, Cartoon Network and PBS (maybe some Disney channel). He’s seen very little adult non-cartoon TV on our watch (can't account for daycare time, especially when he was in an in home one -> they had the BET rap videos on once). (I once watched a CSI with him as baby – the episode on “furries”, because I wanted to see it – that’s the longest stretch of anything grownup I can recall.) I’ve even avoided the news as much as possible – except for the blizzard coverage last year (I figured how bad would it be to see people in the snow!)

We have finally discovered some non-kid music Alan likes. Mark likes to watch concert DVD’s. Most of them Alan will comment with “Turn it off” – he doesn’t like loud rock type music yet. (He did like the Moody Blues + an orchestra). I did notice the other day that he liked Norah Jones’s appearance on Sesame Street when she sun her song that had been tweaked to be about the letter Y. So we got a Norah Jones concert DVD and he liked that. I figure the more music Alan’s exposed to, the more he’ll like it. I do listen to whatever I want on the radio - which is a mix of pop, rock, disco, and oldies. (Although one day, I changed the classic rock station when they played “Highway to H*ll”!)

Please leave a one-word comment that you think best describes me -- it can only be one word long.

Then copy and paste this in your journal so that I may leave a word about you.

Tonight when I picked Alan up from daycare, he was wearing the vintage Gymboree top I'd sent him in, but not the matching shorts - he was in sweatpants. In his backpack were other spare clothing of his, but not the matching shorts. Hopefully, they'll turn up tommorow - but vintage stuff is hard to replace.

(Vintage Gymboree is stuff that came out before 2000 - much brighter colored and less adult looking. People either love it or hate it.)

I picked up Sesame Street All-Star Alphabet on DVD tonight from the library. Alan liked it alot, and I liked the retweaking of some popular songs to fit the alphabet - I got this one because it has Norah Jones on it which Alan liked a lot when he saw it on Sesame Street.

Part of the DVD is filmed in a mall. Although they've blocked out most of the identifying stuff in the mall shots - it looks to me like they filmed it in Garden State Plaza mall in Paramus near me (some stuff looks way too familiar including the carousel). I wouldn't be surprised if they filmed it on a Sunday when the mall is closed - it's also not far from NYC where Sesame Street is filmed. I wonder if it is in the credits?

Edited to add - yes it was filmed at Garden State Plaza, they did show it in the credits. Even my husband recognized the mall and he doesn't go as much as I have.
