I was watching Sesame Street this AM with Alan as I dressed him.
Gordon was on - he was explaning they are rerunning a series of episodes this week that dealt with a hurricane on Sesame Street (I guess as a response to what's happened in Florida). It was strange to see a different opening and to see the actor playing Miles (Gordon's son) in short hair and not braids!

I had wondered what they did with the old shows.

I wonder if this is national or just something channel 13 PBS - NYC is doing.

Another friend just mentioned it in her journal, and she's in SC. I will have to see if it's like that here. I think today's episode already ran, but it repeats later.

I know they did a post-Sept. 11 one like that too, where something bad happened and Sesame Street was damaged. I can' recall what the something bad was, but it was pretty interesting how they dealt with it. Of course, SS is filmed in NYC, so they were probably affected much more anyway.

They showed a clip of the post 9/11 show on the 35th anniversary special (when they did a montage at the end of all the years) - they had a fire.

Ahh... that's right. I saw the montage show. Gosh, it was such a trip down memory lane!

We have "What's the Name of that Song" video, and it has under the special features some older sketches. It's just wild!

Big bird's home was destroyed, if I recall correctly. I never felt so awful for sweet, dear Big Bird as I did in that moment when he's just crying over his ruined home. But Gordon said the right thing..."it's not o.k. right now, but it will be." A line I guess stuck with me.

PS - I knew something was up when they had Gordon do a promo before the show telling parents to talk to their kids about natural disasters and feeling safe. I thought it was appropriate (not just with the hurricanes in the southeast but with the volcano here...)
