Direct tv/dish tv

We are looking into dumping our crummy time warner non digital cable television - and replacing it with satelite tv (assuming we can get reception in our condo, I'm not sure we can have a dish facing the right way on our side). I've looked at dish and direct tv, direct tv seems to be the better deal - I'd like to know people's experiences.

Date: 2005-01-28 02:07 pm (UTC)We hated it.
You see, Keri watches a LOT of TV... and the dish would go out if there was a trace of rain within 100 miles (it seemed)... damn near EVERY day, we would get 'Unable to receive satellite'... go look at a weather map, and there might be rain miles and miles away.
And, if I actually bothered to sit down to watch TV, it would invariable be at the moment the dish went blind.
We called the dish people, and they said 'just put a garbage bag over the dish' to keep water from sheeting on it and mis-reflecting the signal. What a dumb hillbilly suggestion.
I put the dish *IN* the garbage bag and ordered cable.
Costs more, a few less channels, but it works.
And I don't have a huge garbage bag hanging from the side of my expensive house.
