We are looking into dumping our crummy time warner non digital cable television - and replacing it with satelite tv (assuming we can get reception in our condo, I'm not sure we can have a dish facing the right way on our side). I've looked at dish and direct tv, direct tv seems to be the better deal - I'd like to know people's experiences.

We had dish in the apt we lived in while the house was being built. We really didn't care for it. Most of our family has direct tv and we really like that a lot more than Dish.

I have only had time warner digital (not right now though) but my aunt had TW and the dish/dircet tv. She hated the dish but had no choice in having it because at the time TW wasn't available in her area. Every time it rained or the wind blew or it was cloudy her reception either went out completely or it was just bad. My mother has direct tv and doesn't like it either but again she only has it because TW isn't available. they have the same trouble with it going out when there is bad weather and the customer service has been bad also. Most of the people I know who had either dish or direct had nothing good to say about it.

I have Dish Network and love them - likely, I can ask for a referral card and get you a deal. Let me know.

We got Dish b/c they had (we thought) better programming--and they had the local channels we wanted (Direct TV had Baltimore rather than DC). We are happy with them.

We have had DirecTV since just before Wes was born. I love it. Good channels..good reception..we've only had one problem with it but it was a hardware issue (my throwing a shoe into the shoe pile by the door and it loosened the cable) .. and we figured that out on our own. We haven't had a lot of problems with it going out in bad weather. I'd say in almost 3 years of service we've had maybe 4 outages..only one of them lasted more than a few minutes. Then again we live out in the country and there's lots of free sky.

Cable cable cable

[livejournal.com profile] keri80 and I had a dish for a while.
We hated it.

You see, Keri watches a LOT of TV... and the dish would go out if there was a trace of rain within 100 miles (it seemed)... damn near EVERY day, we would get 'Unable to receive satellite'... go look at a weather map, and there might be rain miles and miles away.

And, if I actually bothered to sit down to watch TV, it would invariable be at the moment the dish went blind.

We called the dish people, and they said 'just put a garbage bag over the dish' to keep water from sheeting on it and mis-reflecting the signal. What a dumb hillbilly suggestion.

I put the dish *IN* the garbage bag and ordered cable.
Costs more, a few less channels, but it works.
And I don't have a huge garbage bag hanging from the side of my expensive house.

Cable may win for us by default. Our patio faces the wrong way :(

I do not think I can convince my husband to go for digital cable at $75, so I guess we are stuck with the 44.99 junk :(
