I was watching Nickelodeon with Alan this AM. I noticed they had new Ninja Turtle toys out - I mentioned it to my husband...and I said Guess Why - because all the children who grew up with them are parents now (more or less the 80's generation).

Mark and I grew up in the late 1960's/1970's and the toys etc from our childhood are different. We've been showing Alan some of our childhood stuff recently - he's watched Wacky Races/Dasterdly and Muttley (late 60's cartoons), the Flinstones and Jetsons (which used to be on ALL the time it seemed). He also saw some Pink Panther cartoons the other day and this afternoon watched some of a Billy Joel concert video.

I wonder if it will be good or bad that he'll know more of our childhood stuff than the childhood stuff of his classmates.

We have the opposite problem here. All of our kids' friends are y'all's age. Ours are the weirdoes with two generations of Carebears and Cabbage Patch kids, etc, and they're all Flinstones freaks. :D (Not that I don't like the Flinstones it was ALWAYS on when I was a kid.)

Our childhood stuff was much better (I'm a '65 model myself). Rocky and Bullwinkle, all the Sid & Marty Kroft stuff (Liddsville, Sigmund, Puff-n-stuff, the Bugaloos)...these are all so much cooler than the Turtles and those horrific minions of Satan, the Care Bears.

My mom was born in 1940 and instilled a love of old radio shows in me (Duffy's Tavern, Lone Ranger, Fibber McGee and Molly) not to mention the wonderful Beany and Cecil cartoons.

I show my children the same things. I think our cartoons and things from our age was much better than this Power Ranger stuff they have now adays. They love the Jetsons, Flinstones, Yogi Bear and more.
I think it is great we expose our children to many things

I let Darryn watch the cartoons of my generation as well... I have the original Jem and the Holograms on video, I have the original Strawberry Shortcake, Rainbow Brite... :)

I had a bit of a mental disconnect the other day. As I was allowing my child to pick which Flintstone's vitamin he wanted, it suddenly occurred to me that he probably has no idea who the Flintstones are!
