I wrote some stuff my LJ today about Iraq and Alan being sick. No one commented :(
(I thought the majority my LJ friends have similar political views, so I was hoping someone one would notice.)

Date: 2006-05-10 06:18 pm (UTC)Even watching protesting at abortion clinics and viewing protesting from the Vietnam era on documentaries gets me sort of confused. Protesting outside with mean/ugly/hateful poster boards seems to not really mean anything other than their personalities are coming out ahead of the principles of issues.
All in all, I'm thankful for people like your deceased friend, and by all means would feel the need to show my respect for such an awesome display of bravery.
Hope your baby is feeling better soon too!

Date: 2006-05-10 06:19 pm (UTC)I'm sorry Alan is sick... sick toddlers are difficult. Josh just got over being sick and he's still just not eating well and really wiped out by the end of the night, but at least he's on the upswing again. It's no fun when they're sick.
And as for the soldier, I'm glad your town is pulling together to honor him. I'm sure soldiers from Kansas City have been killed, but we barely even hear about it on the news, let alone know about viewing or any kind of organized events to honor the soldiers. I am, in general, against the war, but very much in support of the soldiers fighting it - they're fighting for our country, for our freedoms and I am very aware that they're out there, putting themselves at risk so that maybe I won't be. And that makes every one of them a hero in my eyes.

Date: 2006-05-10 09:35 pm (UTC)As for Alan - I know just how much of a handful sick toddlers are, so I hope he gets over it quickly and with minimal fuss. I did see the other posts, but having been out of commission for a couple of days, was mostly just in skim and catch up mode.

Date: 2006-05-10 11:20 pm (UTC)i read your post on the soldier this morning but didn't comment since I didn't have time. My thought then (and now) is how weird it is that we hear so little about all the people who are being injured and killed over there, and how it's minimized so that people won't get too depressed about the war. I guess my thoughts are that it's too overwhelming to come up with something pithy and relevant.
And, I think it would be very thoughtful and considerate for you to go to the funeral. Regardless of how we feel about the war, those soldiers are over there in our name.

Date: 2006-05-11 12:48 am (UTC)I do hope Alan feels better. Sick toddlers are no fun! Try and get some cuddle time with him tonight (if you haven't already). It'll do you both some good.
We're here. We're reading you. We're supportive. You're not alone!
