It seems boy’s shorts are longer than they used to be. Growing up in the 70’s they were mid thigh. Now they are knee length or even almost Capri length. Alan’s vintage Gymboree shorts are still that length but the newer stuff seems to run longer, especially the stuff in boys size 4. Actually back when I was growing up girl’s shorts were short also, but we didn’t really have capri’s or cropped pants then (unless by accident). Mark still has the shorter, tighter shorts for himself. Actually since he’s tall and thin, I like them better on him – long wide legged ones look huge on him.

It’s weird how fashion is. Gaucho pants are back. By the rule that if you wore it before, you shouldn’t this time, I probably should skip them – they remind me of an outfit I had in 8th grade – ultrasuede vest and gauchos with a polyester disco shirt. I kind of think they are funny looking.

But I also see leggings coming back under skirts or dresses. I remember not liking them at first in the 1980’s – the first ones I saw were white textured – I thought they looked like underware. But over time I grew to like them, especially with an oversized top covering my rear. I still have one pair from K-mart that’s a few years old (K-mart can be untrendy) and wear them with big T shirts (no shoulder pads though).

It's almost as if the MEN who are making the corporate purchasing decisions want to make sure women (and girls) have to buy clothing that is suggestive and sexy, while THEY get to cover up their own bodies.
