I had to change Alan twice on the plane coming back from Florida. I noticed the table pulldown on the toilet had NO strap. I decided to e-mail Continental about this as I think a strap would be helpful if you hit a turbulent bump while flying. I also decided to e-mail a favorite restaurant of ours about their lack of tables in the bathrooms.

There was no table in the restaurant we went to in Florida, so he had to be changed on the sink (someone helped me) - but I don't think they get a lot of babies there. I've also seen places where the changing table is in the handicapped stall, it is hard to find it there, but useful to park the stroller in while changing (and easy for mom to go if she has to also).

What experience have others had with changing tables while out and about?

I can think of a hundred places that have disappointed me with their lack of space for moms. But what is refreshing is when places accommodates us - fully. :)

I got some of those plastic/throw-away pads from the hospital after delivery and threw them in my bag... if I need something extra I use one and then toss it.

Do update with what Continental says.

If I find a gas station while travelling htat has one, we always stop there. I've changed too many diapers on my trunk or on the floor. I quite frankly, prefer the trunk, but in the summer or rain it's not feasible. I never use the strap, so that doesn't bother me. *bad mom* But it icks me out to think of what's ON that strap...ya know?

Our problem is that they never have changing tables for the men's rooms. Harold is a stay at home dad, so he's always the one that needs to do the changing.

This is a HUGE pet peeve of mine! Dan's a very involved dad and he often gets diaper duty. I hate it when he packs off the stinky toddler only to return a moment later to announce, there's no changing table in the mens room, but there's a koala station sign on the ladies room door. I have often plopped the baby down on a tabletop and changed the diaper right there in protest (never with eating customers in view, I'm not that rude!)

The McDonalds closest to me doesn't have changing tables at all! That's really annoying! I end up changing diapers on the booth seat or having to pack up and leave early so I can change her in the car. If I just had the one baby I could go out to the car with little fuss, but I have 3 more in tow so dashing to the van is a real hassle for me, and dangerous for them as they are waiting around in a parking lot for me to finish! I have complained several times but the answer is always the same. The whole place is being remodeled some time this year so they dont want to spend the $ on changing stations now, only to rip them out later! Argg!

This is my big problem too- especially with more than one kid...

If it's a restroom with only one toilet (as opposed to the the kind with stalls to accomodate several women) Ron will just take the kid in there and lock the door.

We've been to some restaurants that have changing tables in the men's room. But, far too many don't. It's quite a shame. What's even worse is when neither restroom has one. Then I have to resort to counters, chairs, benches, or whatever is available. I've never changed her on the floor of a public place though. I'm afraid that it's just too dirty.

Thanks for letting us know about this. I'm concerned since we will be flying on Continental next month with the little one. Please let us know what they say in response.
