It's rainy here so I decided to work from home with my cold and bad ankle. Wish someone at work actually noticed I'm not feeling well though. Had to skip my night out tonight also. Maybe I'll at least get the holiday decorations out - I have them in the living room with the undecorated tree assembled at least.

Seems like a bit of bad news in my corner of the internet:

On one mailing list someone was just diagnosed with pancreatic cancer (She is in her mid 40's with 2 teenage kids)

On another mailing list someone was in automobile accident and broke her wrist (she was sad she couldn't finish addressing her holiday cards)

And a fomer LJ person got unexpected bad news (a divorce filing!)

It seems 2008 just hasn't been a great year for a lot of people. We lost a friend, DH's late dad's oldest friend (since kindergarten) and DH's aunt this year. My aunt is being treated for lung cancer. We spoke to her the other day and she said she wasn't doing well - fortunately she'd done something to her back and shoulder and that hurt, but it wasn't cancer.

Time to go back to work...need some distraction and it does pay the bills.

Does your aunt smoke? How long has she been fighting the cancer? Lung and pancreatic are hard to fight.

Our administrator came in yesterday and was telling me about her MIL's battle. She lives in Luxemburg and wants to come to NYC and take a boat around Ellis Island "befor she dies." They plan that for Feb. My coworker broke down in tears telling me the story. :(

The person with the pancreatic cancer isn't my aunt. I suspect my aunt may have smoked (like my late dad did) but am not sure. She seems upbeat with the lung cancer, so I'm hoping for good news.

That is so sad about your coworker's family - I hope her MIL does get to take the boat ride.

And another person on your LJ who broke her leg. And Dave's grandmother has pancreatic cancer, too.

Definitely not the best year.

But in spite of it all, I'm optimistic. In our little corner, things could be a lot worse.

I'm sorry to hear about your aunt and friends, though. :(

It's been a better year for me than 2007 was, I can say that for certain.

I do hope that things perk up for you soon lesliepear. We do tend to seem to get some years where bad things happen, so I hope that next year is a better one for you.
