Crib Recall

I see there is a big recall on drop side cribs out now. Alan never had one. I remember when we looked at them in stores, we'd rattle the sides and they seemed loose. I figured if the store had them loose, how would we do?

We ended up with the Ikea Narvik Crib. No drop sides, the high setting was pretty high (and I'm 5' 1.5"). Now, I'm glad we did.

I heard that on CBC this morning! We have one that is similar but it's a Sears model.

We ended up co-sleeping when Lily was little, especially because I didn't want to put her in a second-hand I-don't-know-where-it's-been crib (See: crib drama).

I wish we'd saved our money and never bought a crib. My kids would never sleep in one. They slept in a bassinet for a bit but usually just ended up with us. Ben had to sleep in a carseat because of reflux. Ugh. I'm kind of a fan of the port-a-crib thing at this point. And the dressers we bought were solid so the kids could never pull the drawers out so we didn't end up using them for anything but storage, plastic bins would have been cheaper.

I still haven't decided if I want a crib or not, but if we get one it's definitely NOT going to be a drop down.

This wasn't the first recall and it won't be the last and that is scary.

my in-laws trash-talked me a LOT when we bought our crib. their daughter was 6mos older than our son, and they'd bought her one of the cheap walmart cribs with the drop side. our tax return came in just before jubal's first birthday, so i put some real money into his crib and got a baby's dream "generation next." even on sale it was pricey. the in-laws thought i was being stupid, and were really pretty nasty about the whole thing.

the one they bought at walmart was recalled before they'd had it a year, but they STILL had it last time i was there {it had to be at least 4 years old}.
