Weekend

Another Monday at work.

And another busy weekend.

Saturday we had to take my SIL to a lawyer for a legal matter. We left Alan with my MIL and went. On the way back we stopped at a garage sale and got a bunch of books and tapes at a garge sale. I also got a carter's stuffed version of the stacking rings (alan LOVES his plastic ones). They didn't impress Alan, but for 2.00 its not a big deal (perhaps that's why they were in like new condition). And this was yet another sale with girl clothes...do mom's of boys ever have garage sales...there must be stuff somewhere?

Saturday night we went to a local outdoor production (free) of the musical Forever Plaid. We met a friend there. Alan started to get fussy so I took him to the car to nurse (just wasn't a good place to nurse him). Then we left after the intermission - the music was mellow and Alan didn't mind but we weren't to into it.

Sunday was wedding #2 this month. It was Bretton Woods in Morris Plains NJ. The food was GREAT! And plenty of it!

The Jewish bride has worked for many years at a Catholic school for the mentally disabled. She invited some colleagues including a sister in her habit. The sister danced a few dances - the chicken dance and the hava negila/hora. A few of us took pictures of that - even the photographer. All had a good time at the wedding. And Alan got another day with his grandma.

I'm just annoyed the cats have started using the carpet in the living room as a litter box. I've soaked everything with natures miracle, covered in foil, opened the window, it still smells icky...hopefully it will fade soon and the cats go back to being normal. I hope its just a behavior thing even though they are almost 15 and 13. (Teenage cats...yikes!)

I have several theories on boy clothes.

1. There is so much less of it to buy than girl clothes so that when it's finished being used, it looks like crap and no one sells it.

2. There's so much less of it to buy that mom's horde the cute stuff for fear that the next child will also be a boy and there'll be even less cute stuff so they'll have a naked child.

3. There's so much less of it that mom's horde the cute stuff and by the time the next child comes along or they get rid of it, you've got baby bell bottoms and butterfly collared shirts.

2 of our 4 kitties are 15 and 14...in cat years they are 78 and 75 so maybe it's a bit of senility? Our old lady has gone from being an ice queen to being overly affectionate and our aged gentleman has gone from being the sweetest kitty in the world to a chaotic agent of gravity.

I hope it isn't senility. DH doesn't like the carpet smelling. I've proposed moving a litter box in the living room and he didn't like that idea either :(

ach I meant senility in a funny way--many cats have personality changes when they hit the middle of their second decade. And it could be the baby too. Mine were weird at first, then fine then weird again when she started being able to chase them. Since they are aged, you might need more than one litterbox in more than one location. I went through that with my very old siamese a few years ago.

This was in a rental, long ago. When my cats started using the living room as a litterbox I ended up having to put up a door between the living room and the kitchen to keep them off of the carpet. Then I had to pull up the carpet, sand the wood floor underneath because the urine had penetrated through the carpet, steam clean the carpet, and keep the cats out of the living room until they were broken of the habit. Grrrr.
Have you tried saturating the area with baking soda, which is pretty good with odors?

I've been soaking the affected areas with several cleaners including Natures Miracle. The smell is fading a bit. We'll rent a steam cleaner this weekend and hopefully it will stop. We own the place, but don't want to wreck the carpet as we want to sell someday.

Good luck! Cats are wonderful but can be very aggravating at times.
