I got a call from Alan's daycare provider at work this AM...he'd fallen from the high chair and she took him to ER (some confusion on my part as to where he was when I called, but I did catch up with them after I got home on the bus.) He fell when she had her back turned for a second. He got a bruise on his head and sadly lost his bottom 2 front baby teeth with the top ones being loose (I have the lost ones in an envelope). We are home now, I gave him soft food to eat (he was very hungry, but couldn't suck a bottle comfortably) and he's sleeping. She was sorry and I'm not upset, these things happen. I now have to find a pediatric dentist for him and I'd never gotten dental for him - figuring I'd wait till he's 2 or 3 and had teeth. I just e-mailed to postpone my interview, I wouldn't be in a good frame of mind. I need to find something to eat for lunch, never got a chance to eat.
Tylenol (2 droppers, he was 23 lbs 10 oz!) every 4 hours and ice his bump every hour if I can.

Date: 2003-07-30 01:44 pm (UTC)I know you say "these things happen", but you might consider asking for medical reimbursement. Speaking from experience, dental reconstruction is EXPENSIVE, not to mention the ER bills you now have. I'd like to know why he wasn't strapped into the high chair? How exactly did he fall? If he tipped the whole thing over, o.k. But if he just fell out, then someone wasn't doing their job.
Sorry, I just don't want you to be stuck with expenses like this when it could have been avoided.

Date: 2003-07-31 08:02 am (UTC)I would have absolutely freaked out if this had happened to my child at daycare. Bumps and bruises are one thing = all normal kids take spills and have accidents, but this one was totally preventable.
I hope Alan feels better soon!!!

Date: 2003-07-30 01:55 pm (UTC)and i agree w/ what someone said earlier...you took it much better than i would have. even if it was my parents who were taking care of my kids and that happened.
i'm sooooo glad he's ok though. now i guess all he'll want for christmas (or his birthday) are his 2 front teeth! ;o)

Date: 2003-07-31 12:50 pm (UTC)I don't think you can do anything about the teeth that got knocked out, but you may be able to rescue the teeth that were loosened - a dentist would be able to give you information on that.
I'm glad Alan's okay overall, though. Whew!
