I visited Oceanside High School once in my former life as an admissions couselor! I was in love with Long Island and the people there. Spent two whole weeks trapsing around there, taking the LI expressway and toward the end, the train back & forth to NYC when I was covering more of the high schools closer to Queens.
The secretary in the guidance office at Seaford HS was quite a hoot. She told me admissions counselors have the most stressful job, trying to find all these high schools in unfamiliar places.

Being in the south, I say a ton of things differently than the natives.

Some of the top of my head are:
I say soda, or refer to it by brand name (i.e., Diet Pepsi, Sprite, etc.)
I also say pecan like "pee-can" (ok that looks nasty) not pe-CAN with the short A sound. I get a lot of looks on that one.
I call sandwiches hoagies or subs, and once in awhlie I'll say "grinder" but not often (I was born in CT).
Dinner is the formal meal, supper is a quickie-on-the-go thing.

Other than that, I'm with you on your answers, except maybe lightning bug. I think I say lightning bug.
