Long Update
Oct. 14th, 2003 10:36 amI feel like I've fallen behind, so here's an update.
Saturday: Alan and DH went to the Octoberfest being thrown by the opposing mayoral candidate for Little Ferry (I had to supervise the work being done). Apparently there was a lot of food and he'd hired Jimmy Sturr (a big name in Polka) for the music. The candidate - Donald Nuckle (we call him Nucklehead in private) has $, but isn't very bright and hangs with shady characters. Alan'd vote for him (he loves food), we won't. Later I got to go to Gymboree, got Alan a holiday outfit, one sale rack shirt and some socks. Didn't get a coat there, they were BORING. Came home, looked at tile for the kitchen floor (which we decided NOT to do). Got the new stove in, dishwasher wasn't able to hooked up (part needed). We had a sinkfull of dishes, ick :(
Sunday: We had Alan's party. Although I had some last minute running around - pickup the food, go to the party store for hats and 2 helium balloons - it went very well. Alan was very social, not afraid of anyone (he'd met everyone there at some point, except my uncle's SO's 5.5 grandson). He even learned to climb up the step between living room and den at my MILs. He enjoyed his cake very much, even getting some of it on DH who was holding him. He got nice presents, nothing fortunately to return - just one duplicate walker toy (we had one), so that went to his sitters today.
Monday: Went to Target to get kitchen stuff (rug, tablecloth, dish drainer). Didn't find a tablecloth, but did find a nice winter coat and some shorts marked down to 2.18 for next summer. Also found him a stuffed nemo without hard plastic eyes and got the black cat rattle (he may be a little old, but I like black cats and it was cute). Then we went to the mall. He fell asleep in the car. I thought I'd get photos taken there, but he was asleep, they were booked and he got a big zit(?) on his chin. So I booked an appointment for next week - after his eye doctor appointment (allowing time for the drops to wear off). Got hat and gloves at Penny's (needed hat for the coat, the coat had gloves, but at his age most hats are in sets). Exchanged some socks and a pair of pants for a different color and size at Gymboree and TCP. Took him on the mall carousel (I think he liked it). Shared terriaki chicken with him for lunch - he liked the noodles. Picked up the handyman and we got a part to install the washer, that got done. Gave Alan a creamcheese and jelly sandwich for dinner, he liked that, but grapejelly is messy. But the home improvement stuff turned bad later. As he was leaving (with the chair rail on top still needing sonmehing and the floor molding still neededing installation), we found gouges in the linoleum from moving the fridge. We got upset as we weren't replacing the floor yet. (It's a sheet of lineolum not tile). Anyway I ended up driving him to the bus and we basically will fire him. But I was uncomfortable with driving him at night alone and didn't want to pick too much of a fight on the way - I did discuss with DH that it was not good for me to be doing that last night (he bailed as he was upset). He apologized several times for me doing that alone and how hard it was.
Fortunately the kitchen IS usable. Some chair rail needs nail holes stained, and we need to touch up some paint and polyurethan the chair rail/switch/outlet cover and we have no molding and the ugly light but the appliances work. I can finish the rail stuff, but I don't want to nail the molding in. But we may find others to finsih the project. At least we didn't start the other 2 rooms before problems arose.
Oh. Alan can apparently remove the tray on his high chair @ the sitters (the fisher price one). So I e-mailed them. FP will pick up the chair and refund money. I think we will get a strap on booster like we have or the kind that hangs off the table at this point for the sitters.
