Sigh

Why does Nickelodeon suddenly start to run Nick Jr shows (Nee How Kai Lan) at 7 AM instead of Sponge Bob? Alan got upset this morning about it as he now ABHORS any of the preschool shows he contentedly watched last summer.

I vaguely remember them starting the younger children shows earlier in the summer last year but it was not an issue as he was either watching Noggin at the time or didn't really care.

Alas all of the other alternatives at 7AM I found this morning don't work (Cartoon Network - Ben 10, Disney Channel - Handy Manny, Disney XD - Even Stevens - PBS - Sesame Street). Have to see if we get Nicktoons, that would work I hope. There is on demand kids tv in a pinch, but I think the shows are less than a 1/2 hour  and I'd have to set it up :(

I let Alan watch tv in the morning so I can get ready or try to. We've done it for years.

If only Cartoon network had Pokemon at 7 not 8 AM, Alan would be very happy :)

TV Wasteland

Wow, this is a great opportunity for little Alan to pick up a book and learn to love reading. My daughter was quite a reader at four years old and is now a budding fiction writer while working for a MFA. Books can be greater babysitters than the TV, especially since books don't make noise. I implore you to encourage little Alan's literacy, for his sake and the future of our world. Best to you.

I am trying to encourage him to read on his own, he doesn't seem want to. Thanks for the advice.

*nods* TiVo is our friend. That, and DVD boxsets.

We rarely watch live TV these days. A DVR is your friend.

The yellow spongy one is generally not allowed on our t.v. - because my kids watch it and it winds up the little springs in their brains and bodies and they become absolute terrors when they've watched it. I don't know WHY. It's like giving them sugar. It's very strange. I actually kind of like SB. I get sucked into it myself.

I loathe the formulaic mess that is Pokeymon but that gets aired here every morning after Martha Speaks.

Maybe you can find it on disk?

I concur with the DVR comments. I have a few Spongebob episodes (the newer ones) and a bunch of the Penguins of Madagascar episodes saved on the DVR as well as some Backyardigans which Olivia still loves ... and some movies. There's always something there for them to watch if there's nothing on the TV. They don't watch tons of tv. They'd much rather do art or play outdoors or do imagination play but they enjoy certain shows and so I make sure I have some saved.
Oh..and for the anonymous poster, we read too. Lots. Junie B. and The Littles and Magic Treehouse and so on. Just not early in the morning when everyone's trying to get ready for the day. :)

DVDs and DVR/Tivo are the way to go. Steven adore the Pink Panther box set we bought and has been through it beginning to end several times. Of course, he's on his second time through of Monty Python's Flying Circus, so maybe you don't want to be listening to me! ;)

Alan also loved to watch the pink panther cartoons - he adored the very first one the DVD - he called it "Pink and Blue". Haven't tried Monty Python yet, he's been watching Get Smart and Green Acres with DH :)
